Why Vegan?

As a quick aside from my usual foodie posts: I ♥ this video!

It sums up a lot of the reasons why I decided to start following a plant-based diet. Sometimes I feel like I need a friendly push in the right direction to remind we why I do what I do, because there are so many opposing comments out there…

I think it sends a pretty powerful message, but in a positive and hopeful way. I hope you like it, too!! 😀

Or, if you have a bit more time, check out the video below. It’s a little longer, but the time flies by! Such a powerful and thought-provoking speech. This is one of the most effective and informative talks I have ever seen, addressing my question …why vegan?

    1. absolutely! she lays thing out so clearly, and it’s just packed with important info. If you see any other good videos I’d love to hear about them!

  1. What a coincidence! Melanie Joy was one of my teachers in college and was a huge influence on my lifestyle. Fantastic find! You should check out her book “Why we love dogs, eat pigs, and wear cows.” Its eye-opening.

  2. Oh wow that’s so awesome!! What was she teaching, psych? I would have loved to have taken one of her courses! She’s such an effective speaker, I can only imagine her classes must have really interesting. (:
Thanks for the recommendation, too. That’s absolutely going to be the next book I read!

    1. Isn’t it? Thanks for watching 🙂 I love these kinds of videos. You’re absolutely right, it really is inspirational!

  3. Love these videos! Becoming a vegan was the best decision I’ve made, and I agree with you about it being much more inexpensive and quicker… and also creative. 🙂

Thanks for following me, and I look forward to more of your posts! xx Bianca

    1. Thanks! I completely agree with you — cutting all animal products out of my diet truly has been the best decision of my life. It doesn’t just affect what’s on your plate, but it transforms your entire mindset, and by extension, the things you do each day. It’s pretty neat 🙂

  4. Hi Are you a vegan or plant based ? A few friends I know are plant based and still wear wool and leather shoes… just wondering. I like your blog 🙂

    1. That’s a really good question! It’s something that I’ve had to put a lot of thought into, and the full answer would be very long and complicated! In an ideal world, I would be vegan. I’m leaning towards calling myself plant-based, mostly out of respect for the meaning of the term, “vegan”, and out of respect for the dedication of true vegans. I follow a vegan diet, and can describe my personal life as vegan. But, because of work and family obligations I occasionally have to participate in things that wouldn’t be considered vegan (e.g. grocery shopping). To be one hundred percent vegan in all aspects of my life (both diet and behaviour) may mean losing my job and relationship with relatives, so for now I’ve decided to call myself plant-based. Haha, that’s the simplest answer, though I could go on for ages! Thank you for asking 😀

      1. Hi sorry for the late reply. I am happy you know that being vegan is something to take seriously. We vegans live in a world that is surrounded by not vegan things… My take of veganism is that to yourself you are 100% vegan. I do get what you mean about work. Also about family too. Thanks for replying Elle 🙂
